The game is currently in open beta on PC, PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One & Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch. I would imagine that most people will do what I have done and uninstall it immediately too, but I do think that there is a chance that Steel Series might do all of their giveaways this way in the community and fansite for the free-to-play third-person co-op action shooter, Warframe. I figured it was worth a go, installed it and got my code, uninstalled it and ran Malwarebytes and SpyBot just in case and neither found anything untoward and I did get the items it promised in game too after redemption.

I do tend to agree too in that I wouldn't install anything from any unreputable companies just for freebies, but Steel Series have done quite a few giveaways for STO so that did ease my concern somewhat. I would imagine the website has more info though.
